People often over-complicate social media. Most folks are fairly comfortable with face-to-face networking, or what I call analog networking.
But for some reason as soon as computers and technology are added to the mix they think it changes everything. These same people who are comfortable meeting in person suddenly, “don’t know what to say,” or they struggle with, “how to meet new people online.”
Same Principles Apply
The truth is, people are people. Whether they are at a local business networking event in your city or interacting on Facebook or Twitter, they still have the same motivations, dreams and desires.
People are interested in interesting people. And the overwhelming majority of people find those who are interested in them interesting.
If you want to meet new people, whether it’s in person or online, one key is to be interested in who they are as people. When you show that you are genuinely interested in who they are and what makes them tick they will naturally become more interested in you.
This one principle could be enough to not only get you started on social media, but carry you through to remarkable success.
Because the truth is the vast majority of people either genuinely don’t care about others, or don’t care enough to show they care. When you care enough to show it to others you will set yourself apart and attract others to you at the same time.
